Early 18th Century English School Antique Oil on Canvas Depicting A Family Group Portrait in Attic Found Condition

  • Reference : 5359
  • Availability : Available Now
  • Dimensions : Height 29 1/4" x Width 23 1/4"
  • Price : £1950

An early 18th Century English School antique oil on canvas family group portrait.

Rare subject matter with the figures depicted sitting on caned walnut chairs in a garden setting, possibly a folly. The gentleman pours his wine into a baluster-stem wine glass from an onion-shaped bottle. There are no forks on the table, just sabre-knives. A lobster is served on a pewter serving dish with other pewter plates set and a master table salt too. The gentleman appears to be entertaining two ladies whilst a servant carries a glass away from the table and a peasant looks on from beyond and a dog plays in the foreground.

The sitters and artist are unknown.

Condition - Offered in unrestored, attic found condition. Unframed with paint losses and traces of over painting too. Verso, there are a couple of old patch repairs and the painting has been relined historically. If restored, this would no doubt reveal a very interesting period painting.

We can get this painting restored by a professional restorer at greater cost.  Please contact us for a quote or alternatively, why not buy it as it is?
