19/04/21 - Our Walsingham Store is now open for business but operating on reduced hours!

Holt Antique Furniture Ltd and its related Companies would like to update you on what's happening at our antiques store “Holt Antiques at Walsingham Mill” with the continued threat of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

We have now re-opened our doors to customers who wish to visit the mill in person.

Our opening hours are:

Sunday - closed

Monday - closed

Tuesday - closed

Wednesday - open - 11am to 4pm

Thursday - open - 11am to 4pm

Friday - open - 11am to 4pm

Saturday - open 11am to 4pm

Covid guidelines must be followed when entering our store. Please note that the following rules currently apply to ensure the continued safety of both customers and our staff too.

1. The shop can only accomodate a maximum of 6 customers at any one time;

2. Facemasks must be worn continually whilst in-store. We do not allow any exceptions to this;

3. Hand sanitizer (provided by us) must be used on entry;

4. Please follow the one-way system which is marked out in-store; and

5. Please obey the 2 metre distancing rule. Again this is marked out in-store.

A charming 19thC English antique toleware and copper tobacco snuff box.

Bearing an applied copper plaque inscribed "A Douthwaite Born April 19th 1838".

A. Douthwaite, known as "Abraham Dowthwaite or Abram Douthwaite" was born in Ackenthwaite, Westmorland, England to William and Hannah Douthwaite. He was recorded as a blacksmith and farmer of 7 acres and is mentioned in the census' of 1841 through to 1901. He married Isabella Cragg 15th November 1873 (born 1841 - died 1906) and they had four children: Hannah; Elizabeth; William C. and Francis. Abraham passed away in 1907, his death recorded in the district of Kendal, Cumbria. Thanks to the website "Ancestry" for this information.

We are delighted to have also been provided with a photograph of Abraham. Please see the images for this. A paper-based image will be provided with the purchase.

Condition - as per images. The clasp does have a loss however the lid fits snugly to the base without the benefit of this.
