Large & Impressive 19th Century Style Oil on Canvas Painting of a Tall Ship or Schooner

  • Reference : 5289
  • Availability : Available Now
  • Dimensions : Without frame 100cm x 75cm (39 1/2" x 29 1/2") / With frame 123cm x 99cm (48 1/2" x 39")
  • Price : £1475

Information

A large and impressive oil on canvas depicting a tall ship at sea, in full sale, with boats and land yonder.

19th Century in style but 20th Century-made.

Unsigned. Undertaken and completed by an accomplished hand.

Presented in a heavy period-style gilt-gesso frame.

Condition - Please refer to all the images. There is surface craqueluer. Created by the addition of a crackle varnish which has caused the paint to age very effectively and crack as one would expect of an original painting of the period. There is very minor surface wear to the paint surfrace (approx 1cm long) to the bottom left where the frame appears to have rubbed at some point. This is not detrimental to the painting which displays very well and could be easily re-touched. The frame also has a small abrasion to the surface at the top left (approx 3cm long). This could be easily made good with the application of "goldfinger" frame retouching cream. Easily applied with the use of a forefinger!
