A charming late 17thC English antique elm six plank chest bearing a later date of 1748 and initials TM.

Nailed construction.

The plank top with chip carved outer edges, the front of the top with thumbnail edge, above an apron with lockplate, initials and date, supported on stile feet.

The lid lifts to reveal an interior complete with original till (candlebox).

Very good colour and patination.

Condition - Hinges replaced historically - the original snipe hinges are long since lost. Hasp missing. The top is pitted and wonderfully knarled! Traces of historic worm to some of the boards however this is long since gone and has also been treated as a precautionary measure. This is a good period item.
