Information

A good looking 17th Century English antique oak Westmorland-made wainscot armchair, circa 1690.

Found in the heart of the Lake District.

Lovely colour and patination.

With a shaped cresting rail incorporating stylised foliage and flowers above a panelled back, the corner spandrels decorated with fleur-de-lis interspersed with rectangular timbers terminating with lozenge finials. Two down-swept arms are supported on turned front arms and legs. All four legs are united by stretchers.

Originally, this chair was made with a leather strapwork seat however this was replaced with planks, most probably during the 18th Century. The alteration/repair and plank seat shows a great degree of age in its own right.

The front seat rail and stretcher have the most wonderful age-related wear.

Condition - as per images.  All joints are sound. Part of the plank seat has a slight age related loss due to wear and tear.  This remains a useable chair.
