Rare Late 17th Century Large Dutch Antique William III Delftware Lobbed Dish

  • Reference : RAHAF02
  • Availability : Available Now
  • Dimensions : Diameter approx 13 1/2"
  • Price : £1595

Sourced from a private Suffolk-based collection. A large and rare late 17th Century Dutch antique delftware lobbed dish or charger, the centre with a portrait of William III of England surrounded with a decorated broad rim of tulips, flowers and blue and green leaves.

William III (DutchWillem; 4 November 1650 – 8 March 1702), also widely known as William of Orange, was sovereign Prince of Orange from birth, Stadtholder of HollandZeelandUtrechtGelderland and Overijssel in the Dutch Republic from 1672 and King of EnglandIreland and Scotland from 1689 until his death in 1702. It is a coincidence that his regnal number (III) was the same for both Orange and England. As King of Scotland, he is known as William II. He is sometimes informally known in Northern Ireland and Scotland as "King Billy".

Condition - good overall.  A very feint hairline is apparent running aprox 5" in length from the rim at the 8 o'clock position however this is stable (see image 4).  The dish bears a number of labels verso including one referring to Lambeth however we would attribute this dish to Holland. This dish displays very well.
