Information

A good looking English oak wainscot armchair from the latter years of the 17th Century, circa 1680.

Yorkshire origin and sourced from that area.

This chair is just about as original as you will find even down to the majority of the seatboard!  With that in mind, we believe that this chair should be left in "as found condition" and are therefore offering it for sale as it is.  Our price therefore reflects that.

Joined construction.

Original timbers throughout aside a thin timber fillet to the seatboard and a small supporting batten to the rear of the base of the back support.

With shaped cresting rail above a carved panelled back flanked by carved "ears", to shaped arms supported on turned front legs. The original plank seatboard remains with only a hint of a later replaced middle timber.  The legs are united by their original stretchers.

No re-tipping of the feet is evident.

Condition - surface marks commensurate with age.  The timber fillet to the seatboard is unobtrusive as is the batten to the rear of the seatboard.  The timber fillet on the seatboard is supported from below with the addition of a batten (see final two images) for these repairs.

The is a sound chair that is ready to go.
