Rare Early 17th Century Dutch Antique Delftware Tile of a Soldier, Circa 1625-1650

A rare 17th Century Dutch delft tile depicting a soldier wearing a comb morion helmet, armoured breast plate, a rapier at his hip and large breeches whilst carrying a pike.  Presented in an occlade border with decorative corners.

These tiles were inspired by the Dutch War of independence which ran from 1568 to 1648.

Most soldier motifs from this period were copied from the engravings of Jacob de Gheyn, who at the end of the 16th century was asked by Earl Johann VII of Nassau-Siegen to write a drill book for soldiers entitled "Wapenhandelinghe" and published in 1607. Therefore you find impressive and excellently painted illustrations of warriors, especially musketeers and pike men, on early tiles like this one here.

Condition - good as per images.
