A fine 18th Century watercolour and pastel portrait of a gentleman attributed to Daniel Gardener (1750-1805) (bears very feint hand written notes verso). Sadly we are unable to ascertain who the sitter is.
Gardener himself established a studio in Bond Street, London, speciaising in small portraits in pastel, crayon and gouache and quite often set his subjects in a pose reminiscent of those subjects painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds.
Condition - Presented behind glass in a later oval frame. Slight surface scuff to the sitter's hair. Some foxing to the paper commensurate with age.
